About Me

General
- Dr. Thomas Luckner is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Flagler College in the Department of Mathematics and Technology. He has just finished his first year at Flagler and is excited for many more!

-In his teaching, Dr. Luckner focuses on two things; the class and the person. Although his approach may vary from course to course, he strives for a comfortable, engaging classroom environment with plenty of peer-on-peer interaction while challenging students in ways they have not been challenged before. Check out his teaching philosophy to learn more!

-Dr. Luckner has an active research agenda and is well-connected in the mathematics community. His research falls under the large umbrella of Number Theory although recently his work has been focused on digitally delicate primes and the irreducibility of Taylor series generated polynomials using methods such as Newton polygons and Eisenstein's criterion. Currently Dr. Luckner has two undergraduate students conducting research under his supervision: Jamie Philpott (email: Philpott702 (at) flagler (dot) edu) and Christina Mark (email: Mark192 (at) flagler (dot) edu). Jamie is in the last stages of his project on unit sensitive primes. Christina is an honors student who will be conducting her honors capstone under Dr. Luckner's supervision starting this fall in mathematical biology. Christina will also be taking on a small project on visible lattice points in the upcoming academic year.

-Dr. Luckner has recently begun studying data analytics in sports and plans to use this knowledge for more undergraduate research projects and some cross-discpline projects as well. He is looking for any students interested in conducting research in Number Theory or working on some projects in sports analytics for the next academic year. Please email me if interested!

-Outside of his career, Dr. Luckner has many hobbies and interests. He is a life-long New York Yankees fan and would love to discuss how great the Yankees are. He is also a supporter of University of South Carolina having earned his doctorate from USC (the real one). He also enjoys playing sports himself although he is not the athlete he used to be. Lastly, he is an avid craft beer fan/collector and loves to travel for beer festivals as much as he can! Come talk to me about any of the above or email me!
